AIPN 2018 International Petroleum Summit: Oil and Gas Dealmakers Come to London

London, UK (March 21, 2018) – The International Petroleum Summit (IPS), the annual conference of the Association of International Petroleum Negotiators (AIPN), is taking place in London this year on April 23 to 25, 2018, “in recognition of the important role the UK capital plays as an international hub for the petroleum industry, not only as a major hub for companies being based here but also for the global financial community” , said Steven Otillar, President of AIPN and Partner at White & Case LLP.

Otillar continued, “We are proud to bring this important event to the doorstep of our European members at a time when commodity prices have begun to stabilise, and the industry is having to focus on efficiency and transparency more than ever. The continued growth of unconventional oil and gas production in the United States has fundamentally altered the global industry and competition for limited international exploration budgets is intense.”

“Holding the event in London for the first time gives us an opportunity to discuss topics that are pertinent to a European audience such as the dynamic situation in the North Sea where the traditional oil majors are withdrawing and being replaced by new, agile players backed by private equity. A number of key questions will be addressed at the conference by some of the leading names within the industry. What exit strategy is private equity pursuing? And what are project lifecycles going to look like?” said Egon van der Hoeven, AIPN VP Conferences; Commercial Manager Asia Pacific and Middle East, ExxonMobil Exploration Company.

Tackling these and other questions about the shape of the oil industry in the future will be a range of executive speakers representing every aspect of the commercial oil and gas industry. The speaker line-up includes:

Bob Dudley, Group Chief Executive, BP p.l.c.
Carlos Treviño Medina, Chief Executive Officer, PEMEX
The Lord Browne of Madingley, Executive Chairman, L1 Energy
Maynard Holt, Chief Executive Officer, Tudor, Pickering, Holt & Co.
Luca Bertelli, Chief Exploration Officer, Eni
Kevin McLachlan, SVP Exploration, Total S.A.
David Mendelson, VP Global New Ventures, Total, Exploration and Production
Joseba Murillas, Global Exploration Executive Director, Repsol
Huibert Vigeveno, EVP Global Commercial, Shell

“The conference is very much a place to do business according to John Bridges, AIPN Executive Director, “The IPS has a reputation for building and maintaining the relationships between the international oil companies (IOCs), national oil companies (NOCs) and host governments. All are trying to find ways to develop strategic partnerships that are beneficial for all sides, which nowadays go beyond the extraction of hydrocarbons to encompass the important issues of community and social responsibility. The delegates, which are deal enablers or deal generators, recognize this new reality that are helping shape the industry’s future”.

In addition, Graham Cooper, President-Elect AIPN; Commercial Director, Zennor Petroleum indicated that, “There are a lot of areas that our industry still needs address in order to adapt and survive in the ‘Lower Forever norm’. In my opinion the IPS is critical in communicating the role of the AIPN globally”.
