Join us in 2020 for the inaugural Above Ground Risk Workshop in Houston!
Workshop program to be released soon!
So, what can go wrong? How many times have you heard this expression just before a major decision is made? There are an infinite variety of upstream oil and gas projects, each having its own unique set of risks. Companies work in rapidly changing political landscapes with rapidly changing technology which present even more challenges to fully appreciating the various risks. Yet, risk management is not standardized and must be customized to the individual corporate personality and its corresponding risk tolerance.
The ability to quantify and monetize risk is subjective, and thus many times underestimated for complex international projects, leading to initially catastrophic results. Identifying, evaluating, and managing risk for international projects is a critical step toward insuring predictable results.
AIPN’s Above Ground Risk Workshop will systematically drill down into each component of the omnipresent topic of “risk”. The discussion will then be customized as it relates to the international upstream end of the oil and gas business from cradle to grave, starting first with defining the broad scope of risks an explorer/developer/investor would need to consider before making the first financial/personnel commitment for a new country entry, all the way to a multi-billion dollar financial investment decision, and finally, the decision of whether or not to extend/renew/abandon a multi-decade host government contract. Additionally, the discussion will be expanded to the corporate level looking at techniques to address enterprise risks, along with techniques and tools to address risks at this level.
Attendees will participate in sub-section exercises they will utilize and practice the risk assessment and evaluation tools they learn along the way. Attendees will then bring them all together to see how each fit in a comprehensive enterprise risk system that can be tailored to their company’s needs and risk profile. Attendees will be able to develop better mitigation plans and more accurately quantify risks, so that they will be more able to have predictable results and more successful projects.
Those who may be interested in attending AIPN’s Above Ground Risk Workshop include: oil and gas company commercial representatives, project managers, legal advisors, contract negotiators, business development executives and analysts, government regulators, and technical staff.
