The recent crash in oil prices has given rise to some pessimism in the international oil industry, with “lower for longer” becoming a common slogan, and reluctance to invest in exploration a reality. But oil price crashes are nothing new and, as always, while some of the industry adopts a more skeptic approach to the future, other companies look for ways to diversify their risk and their activities. At the same time as companies look to optimize their operations, issues that have long been sitting at the back of peoples’ minds, such as decommissioning, are also coming to the forefront of discussion in more mature provinces.
