Major oil and gas producing states in Europe are now seriously turning their attention to societal transitions away from fossil fuels. In the last six months, for instance, the UK Government has issued an Energy White Paper entitled “Powering our Net Zero Future”, and a “North Sea Transition Deal” has been agreed through the tripartite partnership between the UK Government, the Oil and Gas Authority and the offshore oil and gas sector. These are the precursors of huge economic and social change. This kind of political, regulatory and legal initiative, which is occurring across the region, will see the creation of new regulatory regimes, the emergence of new energy sources and the development of new types of contracting. But there will still be a need for hydrocarbons for many decades, even if the long-term goal is “Net Zero”. How we transition our energy systems, recognising that oil and gas - with the capital, expertise, infrastructure and supply chain - is crucial to progressing game-changing alternative energies, is vital.

Organized by the Europe Chapter (Scotland section), this webinar will feature an impressive panel of speakers who will share their experiences and observations on these momentous happenings in the UK, Norway and Denmark. What are the main changes likely to be and how can the oil and gas industry adapt and contribute?

The main topics to be discussed will be:
- What are the energy options which will allow us to achieve Net Zero?
- What are the regulatory options which will allow us to pursue these new energy sources?
- What will be the legal and regulatory impacts on on-going oil and gas operations?
- High-level discussions of such issues as carbon capture, offshore electrification, expansion of the hydrogen economy, and the opportunities for the oil industry to affirmatively drive change.
